Research with BC trade contractors

I’m speaking with small trade contractors in British Columbia to understand how they handle GC/customer document requests, prequalification paperwork, insurance certificates, WorkSafeBC clearance, safety documents, licenses, training records, and onboarding packages.

This is research only - not a sales demo. The questionnaire will take about 7 minutes, and short research calls are available if you prefer to talk.

Prefer not to talk live? The questionnaire is enough. Survey link coming soon - send me a note if you want to participate.

Why this research is being done

Many trade contractors are asked to provide proof before they can qualify, quote, onboard, mobilize, or start work. For smaller companies, this work often falls on the owner, estimator, office administrator, or operations person.

Documents may be stored across email, folders, spreadsheets, portals, accounting systems, shared drives, and old submission packages. I’m researching whether these requests create real admin burden, where the biggest delays happen, and what contractors already do to manage proof documents and customer requirements.

  • How often contractors receive customer or GC document requests.
  • What documents are commonly requested before work can begin.
  • What parts of the process create delays, rework, or uncertainty.

Who I’m looking to speak with

This research is most relevant for BC-based specialty trade contractors that handle customer paperwork without a dedicated contract, compliance, safety, or document-administration person.

What the questions are about

The questionnaire is about process and experience. It is not asking you to upload private customer documents or disclose confidential project files.

  • How often document requests happen.
  • What documents customers usually ask for.
  • Who handles the work today and where documents are stored.
  • What takes the most time and what causes delays.
  • Whether existing tools already solve the problem.
  • Whether a better process or tool would be useful.

Choose how you want to participate

Different people prefer different levels of commitment. You can answer privately, book a short call, or send a direct message first.

Book a short research call

Choose a time that works for you. The call is not a sales demo — it is a short research conversation about how your company handles customer document requests and prequalification paperwork today.

Privacy and use of answers

The purpose of this page is to learn from contractors, not to collect confidential customer files or publish company-specific responses.

How answers will be used

Individual company responses will not be published by company name. Answers will be used to understand whether this problem is real, how contractors currently handle document requests, and whether a better tool would be useful.

What not to send

Please do not upload or send confidential customer documents, private project files, or unredacted records. The research is about your process and experience.

Negative feedback is useful

If this is not a problem for your company, that answer is useful too. The goal is to learn what is real before deciding what should be built.

Research only

This is not a sales demo. There is no requirement to buy anything, and participating does not commit your company to any product or service.

About the research

This research is being conducted by Peter Lach of CBBSOFT Custom Built Business Software Inc., a BC-based software company. I’m exploring how small trade contractors manage customer proof documents, project-readiness requirements, and repeated prequalification packages.

The working name for this research theme is TradeReady Passport. The purpose of this page is research only: to learn from real contractors before deciding whether anything should be built.

Optional. This just helps understand whether the research is relevant to your company.
Please do not include confidential customer documents or private project files.
